MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of the Lyons Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in the Village of Lyons.  We believe in the dignity and worth of all people. We are committed to providing high quality, community-oriented police services with sensitivity, problem-solving, teamwork, openness, continuous self-evaluation and improvement, protecting constitutional rights and providing leadership to the police profession.  The members of the Department practice the philosophy of Community Policing. This philosophy promotes a strong partnership between residents and their police department. It is based on the premises that both the police and the community must work together as equal partners to identify, prioritize and solve problems such as crime, fear of crime in neighborhoods with the goal of improving the overall quality of life in the community of Lyons.  Members of the Lyons Police Department shall actively pursue the cooperation of every resident in an effort to create a police and community partnership that is sensitive to the different cultures that make up the human diversity of our community.  It is the express policy of this Department to enforce the laws, preserve the peace, reduce fear and provide for a safe environment.

ABOUT US:

The Village of Lyons is the Wayne County seat, and is located in the south central area of the county, at the intersections of New York Routes 14 and 31, approximately midway between Rochester and Syracuse in upstate New York.  Our 3700 residents live within 4.1 square miles.  The historic Erie Canal passes through our Village, and is a large part of our heritage.  The Lyons Police Department is staffed by 11 full-time police officers, 5 part-time police officers and 2 civilian employees, under the direction of Chief Michael R. Donalty, a 27-year police veteran.  All of our professional and dedicated officers are New York State-certified police officers who are trained throughout the State in the latest law enforcement topics and techniques.  Several of our officers are noted regionally as experts in their respective fields.  Our facility is located on William Street in the downtown district, adjacent to the Village Office and Village Justice Court.  We proudly patrol our streets and neighborhoods with a fleet of three police vehicles and four bicycles, providing 24-hour dedicated law enforcement services.  In 2009, the Lyons Police Department responded to 7518 requests for service, which resulted in 401 criminal arrests, and 1244 traffic arrests.
